Volunteers are hosting a jamboree April 14 to help Newark resident Tracy Elliott who needs a double-lung transplant.
The event will run from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Newark Elks Lodge 1249, 233 S. Main St., Newark, Wayne County. Admission is $5 per person and the event will include live entertainment from four local bands, as well as a special guest.
Elliott, 48, began experiencing breathing difficulties in 2000 while walking. The average double-lung transplant, according to a release, costs about $800,000, and even with health coverage, Elliott still faces significant medical expenses related to the transplant. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and expensive daily anti-rejection medications.
To help alleviate the financial burden, Elliott turned to the National Foundation for Transplants, a nonprofit organization that helps patients raise funds to pay for transplant-related expenses.
