Paralegal Perspectives: Casino Night a success; membership drive is on

Spring — at least the date is telling us this but that cold north wind tells us otherwise. For the most part spring really is around the corner and with any luck it will soon warm up so that everyone will be a little happier.

The Paralegal Association of Rochester has been busy though, even if the weather has not been very accommodating.

This past Friday evening, April 12, was the 4th Annual Legal Charity Casino Night held again at the Knights of Columbus in Webster. This year’s charity was again Monroe County Legal Assistance Center. We had many sponsors and the gifts were aplenty.

There were numerous types of card tables in addition to a roulette wheel to try your luck at, and attendance was at an all time high. Plenty of networking and just catching up with old friends. The night was a huge success for all. Thanks to everyone involved for your assistance and donations. It was greatly appreciated.

At present, PAR’s annual membership renewal and membership drive is going on. Please try to get your renewal sent in before the end of the month and try to recruit a new member, if possible.

Just a reminder that registration for the 2013 New York State Paralegal Education Leadership Conference & 25th Year Anniversary Celebration in Saratoga Springs is still going on. The dates are Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4. For information concerning this you can go directly to the ESAPA website at www.empirestateparalegals.org or contact me at debbi16@rochester.rr.com. Any registered paralegals that need CLE credits this year will see many being offered. Hope to see you there.

Also next month PAR will be hosting the Annual 2013 Dinner and Election of Officers. It is again being held at Hose 22 restaurant in Charlotte. It has been held there the last couple of years and it was fantastic! The evening gives fun for all that attend.

The PAR Board is also still in need of directors at large. If you have never held a position on the board, come on and try it! If you are a past board member and want to re-wet your feet, come on and do it. It is definitely a learning and rewarding experience. It really does not take that much time and overall you will definitely enjoy it.

If anyone has questions concerning the annual meeting, they can contact Michele McKay at mmckay@harrisbeach.com. Or if you would like information concerning the PAR board of directors please contact Patty Sexstone at patty@forsythlawfirm.com.

PAR hopes to see everyone at the ESAPA conference and the annual dinner in May.
