Mwisa Chisunka has been appointed state business ombudsman and director of business tax services and education, according to an announcement by Empire State Development and the state Department of Taxation and Finance.
As New York’s first female ombudsman, Chisunka will work with the businesses and business organizations to provide education about tax law developments, answer questions and help businesses navigate the issue resolution process. She will also launch pro-business programs as part of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s Open for Business initiative.
Chisunka joins Empire State Development after four years of leading the Tax Department’s downstate outreach efforts with advocacy and professional groups. Previously she was a senior analyst and policy operations coordinator with the New York State Senate.
