Despite the protests of many residents, the Monroe County Legislature on Tuesday approved a move of a scaled-down version of the county fair to Northampton Park in Ogden.
Several members of 4-H clubs at the meeting read letters of support for the move, praising a renewed emphasis on agriculture and focus on animals. County officials say the fair, which is scheduled in August, would not have large-scale amusement rides and a demolition derby as previous fairs in Henrietta offered.
Nearby residents said they are concerned about noise, parking, traffic and the impact on the park’s natural setting. Others criticized county officials for the secretive manner in which the decision to move the fair was made.
The move was prompted after the 2012 sale of the Dome Arena and county fairgrounds in Henrietta.
