Harriet Tubman residential center sold

The state Office of General Services has sold the closed Harriet Tubman Residential Center in Auburn for $900,000.

The minimum bid was $250,000 and there were three registered bidders at the auction, held at the Sennett Town Hall in Cayuga County. The successful bidder did not disclose plans for the property, however they must comply with local zoning laws. It is anticipated that closing on the property and transfer to the new owner will take place over the next several months, according to a state release.

The Harriet Tubman Residential Center, constructed in 1993 and closed in 2011, is a former state Office of Children and Family Services-operated juvenile justice facility for young women.

The next public auction of state real property will be Oct. 16 for the Pyramid Reception Center in the Bronx with a minimum bid will be $3.9 million.
