Red-light camera suit decision due in Nov.

State Supreme Court Justice J. Scott Odorisi is expected to render a decision by Nov. 8 in a constitutional challenge to Rochester’s red-light camera program.

Justice Odorisi last month denied the city’s motion to dismiss the suit filed by attorney Lawrence Krieger, who is fighting the ticket he received. His attorney, Michael Steinberg, argued the program is unconstitutional.

Both sides appeared before Justice Odorisi on Sept. 24.

Rochester businessman and Green Party mayoral candidate Alex White has called for the immediate end to what he calls the city’s “red light revenue program” in light of the constitutional questions raised in the suit.

Pointing to properties in the city that have received tax breaks, White said revenue, instead, could be raised by assessing properties fairly.
