New York State Senior Investigator Timothy J. Cowper died Sunday after the single-engine plane he was flying crashed into a wooded lot in Edinburg, Saratoga County.
Cowper was off duty.
State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico said Cowper was an experienced pilot and a dedicated 30-year veteran of the New York State Police, assigned to Division Headquarters in Albany.
He began his career with the state police in 1983, spending most of his career assigned to Troop G in the Capital Region. He also worked in Troop D in the Oneida area and in New York City. Cowper was assigned to Division Headquarters in 2004 and promoted to senior investigator in 2006.
“The thoughts and prayers of the entire New York State Police family go out to Senior Investigator Cowper’s loved ones during this difficult time,” D’Amico says in a statement issued Monday.
