A series of events are planned Saturday to commemorate the historic Mount Hope Cemetery’s 175th anniversary.
A sale of cemetery books and artwork begins at 10 a.m., followed by a crematory open house and walking tours. A formal program begins at 1:30 p.m. Visitors also can view the inside of the 1912 Chapel at 11 a.m. and noon.
Originally dedicated Oct. 3, 1838, the nearly 200-acre Mount Hope Cemetery is the oldest municipal Victorian cemetery in the nation.
The city of Rochester and the Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery are working to establish a tree management plan for the cemetery. Private donations are being solicited to assist with reforestation efforts. For more information, visit cityofrochester.gov/reforestmounthope.
