FLEMING — An 18-year-old man is accused of stabbing his stepfather to death with a kitchen knife in their central New York home as a younger sibling watched.

Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould is asking the public’s help finding the knife used Monday night to kill 41-year-old John Welsh of Fleming, 25 miles southwest of Syracuse. Welsh’s stepson, 18-year-old Logan Jones, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder.

Jones is in Cayuga County Jail without bail awaiting a preliminary hearing next Monday.

Cayuga county District Attorney Jon Budelmann told the Syracuse Post-Standard that Welsh was scheduled to be sentenced in January for burglarizing a home in Auburn. Charges are also pending against Jones in that break-in last August.
