A civil rights lawsuit has been filed in federal court on behalf of a city resident who claims a Rochester police officer beat him during an incident last August.
Dwayne Ivery sustained several injuries after Rochester police officer Alexander C. Baldauf allegedly punched Ivery numerous times in the head, face and body after police were called to an East Main Street address because of a dispute, according to an account provided at a press conference hosted by the organization Enough is Enough. Ivery was subsequently charged with second-degree harassment and resisting arrest and he later accepted an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal.
The suit names Baldauf and fellow officer Ricky J. Harris Jr., former Police Chief James Sheppard and the city of Rochester.
Ivery is represented by attorney Charles F. Burkwit.
