“What you see is what you get,” Fatimat Reid said as she introduced Mayor Lovely A. Warren to a full house of attorneys and guests on Feb. 13 as the Rochester Black Bar Association co-hosted a reception for the new mayor along with the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys.
Most of the evening included casual socializing, and opportunities to meet the mayor and talk one-on-one. Corporation Counsel T. Andrew Brown was also on hand, along with other senior officials.
Warren spoke briefly, acknowledging the many challenges and opportunities ahead of her.
“I promise you, we will see a big difference in four years,” Warren affirmed.
GRAWA and RBBA representatives said they were proud to plan the reception to honor Rochester’s first woman mayor. The event was held at the Association of American University Women’s East Avenue headquarters in the Perkins Mansion.
The mansion was gifted to the AAUW in 1947, when the female donor, Elizabeth Perkins, told her benefactors: “The world is so in need of sanity, tolerance, discretion, wisdom, faith and love. … I wish that this house may send out in the years to come, thoughts and actions that are going to count in making this world of ours a far better one than it is today.”
