May named publisher at ‘The Daily Record’

Julie M. May has been named publisher at The Daily Record, a newspaper and online source for law, real estate and finance in the Rochester area since 1908. The publication is owned by The Dolan Company.

May brings experience in digital, mobile and social media advertising and marketing in the retail, dining, real estate, tourism and personal services industries.

Director of Development Glenda Russell said she is pleased May is joining The Dolan Company as the new publisher of The Daily Record.

“She brings valuable experience and a strong connection to the community,” Russell said.

May most recently was a marketing and technology consultant for Mayhem Marketing and vice president of interactive media at Break the Ice Media. May, who is a State University of New York College at Brockport graduate, has blogged extensively on sales and marketing trends.

May said she is excited to join the publication and her publishing and advertising experience is a good fit.

“I’m looking forward to meeting with a lot of new people in our community and also reconnecting with past advertisers I consider friends,” May said. “I want to make sure we do top-notch events that honor the great work being done in our community.”

May also worked 13 years at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, most recently as director of marketing.

“I love downtown,” May said. “I like the energy — it’s nice to be back.”

May and her fiancé live in Greece. Her daughter, Heather Heupel, is a sophomore at West Irondequoit High School.

Outside the office, May enjoys reading and is learning how to knit. She also is huge hockey fan and a Buffalo Sabres fanatic, she said.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know my new family,” May said.
