Rochester man found guilty in woman’s ’07 murder

A 49-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering his former Rochester neighbor seven years ago this month.

Local media report that a jury found Darrell Boyd guilty of second-degree murder Thursday, two days after deliberations started.

Boyd was found guilty of strangling and beating 54-year-old Katharina Lawn inside her apartment on April 20, 2007.

Authorities say Boyd then set fire to the apartment in an attempt to cover up his crime. Prosecutors say Boyd’s DNA was found underneath Lawn’s fingernails.

Boyd faces up to 25 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced May 14.

Prosecutors say Boyd was angry at Lawn for calling the police on him two years earlier during a domestic dispute, which resulted in Boyd spending more than a year in prison.
