Monroe County Democratic legislators have submitted a resolution opposing a proposed casino in Henrietta.
Legislators would have until May 16 to decide on supporting the resolution, which was submitted by Legislator Justin Wilcox, D-Brighton.
Over the past few weeks, it has become clear that there is significant opposition to a potential casino in Henrietta, Wilcox said. In addition, there does not appear to be any clear or convincing economic benefits that will result from building a casino in Henrietta, Wilcox added.
The Henrietta Town Board has approved a resolution opposing a casino in town. The Seneca nation has purchased land in town for development that includes a proposed casino.
The resolution calls on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to oppose amending the agreement with the Seneca Nation, which currently allows only three Seneca casinos in the state.
