WHITNEY POINT (AP) — State police said they’ve charged a 43-year-old upstate New York man with making nearly 50 false reports of violence against children to the state child abuse hotline.
Investigators said Harry Clauson of Whitney Point in Broome County made 48 calls to the hotline between Sept. 27 and Feb. 17 at all hours of the day and night. Each call required immediate response and investigation by county Child Protective Services, state police or the sheriff’s office.
Police said the false reports exposed children to sensitive interviews and examinations.
Clauson was arrested Tuesday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and 48 counts of making false child abuse reports.
He’s being held in the county jail on $1,000 bail. The district attorney’s office didn’t know if he has a lawyer.
