‘East Ave rapist’ pleads guilty

Marvin Sevilla-Rosales, 20, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree rape, predatory sexual assault and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with incident last summer.

He admitted raping a young woman in June in the front yard of an apartment building on East Avenue and raping another young woman five days later in July in an apartment on Alexander Street. Both victims were in their 20s. Neither knew their attacker.

After he was identified by a witness, Sevilla-Rosales was taken into custody. DNA testing on evidence from the two rapes confirmed the identification of Sevilla-Rosales. From jail, he plotted to have his Alexander Street victim killed to ensure she would not testify against him.

“What the defendant did to these two young victims is every woman’s nightmare” said prosecutor Julie Hahn, chief of the Nonviolent Felony Bureau.

Sevilla-Rosales will be sentenced on May 28 by Supreme Court Justice Alexander R. Renzi. Under a plea agreement, he will receive 25 years to life in prison.
