Former state employee sentenced

John Hall, of Oswego, a former engineer-in-charge for the state Office of General Services, has been sentenced to six months in jail.

Seneca County Court Judge Dennis Bender also ordered Hall to pay $52,285 in restitution and additionally sentenced Hall to five years’ probation.

Hall, according to a release by Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, obtained more than $50,000 worth of construction equipment and home improvement materials from a contractor who worked on emergency repair projects for OGS in Seneca County in exchange for approving the contractor’s fraudulent billing submitted to the state. The money was recovered in full prior to Hall’s sentencing.

From approximately July 2006 to February 2009, Hall engaged in a scheme to defraud OGS and obtain bribes, according to the release. He pleaded guilty Feb. 21 to defrauding the government and third-degree bribe receiving.
