Rochester Mayor Lovely A. Warren on Friday joined the growing club of adventurers who have taken the plunge over the edge of the First Federal Building.
Adding a new twist, Warren rode a bicycle from City Hall to the First Federal Building where she rappelled the 21 Stories for Scouts down the side of the building. The “Over the Edge” event is to raise money for the Seneca Waterways Council, Boy Scouts of America. The funds will support urban scouting programs, including the 40 afterschool programs in city schools and an opportunity to attend three summer camps.
Each rappeller had to raise at least $1,000 for the daring opportunity. Among those accompanying the mayor on her bike ride were Jeff Holmes of the Rochester Police Department; Scott MacRae, Rochester Cycling Alliance; and Police Officer Mike Koerher.
Warren also got to pose with local sports mascots Spikes of the Rochester Red Wings and The Moose, Rochester Americans hockey team, both of whom also went “Over the Edge.”
