Rochester residents can get consumer help

Customer service representatives in the 311 Call Center will now connect callers directly with the U.S.  Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Many Rochesterians lost their homes during the Great Recession, which was largely caused by the fraudulent and deceptive practices of mortgage lenders and other large financial institutions; and many of those homes remain vacant in city neighborhoods today, said Rochester Mayor Lovely A. Warren.

Residents will now have direct and easy access to a federal agency that can help them make informed financial decisions and lodge complaints of fraud or deception.

The credit bureau’s Office of Consumer Response answers questions and processes consumer complaints on such topics as bank accounts, credit cards, credit reporting, debt collection and other financial services.
