He officially takes office July 1, but the swearing in of Steven V. Modica as the 119th president of the Monroe County Bar Association is complete.
More than 300 people — including several members of the Modica family — turned out Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Rochester to watch the installation of Modica and other officers.
Modica, principal of Modica & Associates, Attorneys PLLC, succeeds Diane M. Cecero, general counsel, Monroe Community College. He was sworn in by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jonathan W. Feldman of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York.
Also sworn in were Neil J. Rowe, NJ Rowe Consulting, as president-elect, and C. Bruce Lawrence, partner, Boylan Code LLP, as president of the Foundation of the Monroe County Bar.
Penny A. Dentinger was honored with the Emerging Bar Leader Award; Elaine Z. Cole, the Justin L. Vigdor Senior Attorney Award for Service; Brian J. Barney, the Raymond J. Pauley Award; and Catherine M. Callery, the Charles F. Crimi Memorial Award.
The bar association also celebrated its 50-year members with a special “Class of 1964”recognition: D. Dyson Gay, Edwin M. Larkin, Jon L. Schumacher, James C. Moore, Stanley A. Gordon, Bernard D. Levine, Paul E. Mura, Michael A. Polozie and David C. Pelton.
