WNY man shot by deputy pleads guilty

A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a crime spree that ended with him being shot by a sheriff’s deputy in a Rochester suburb.

Local media reported that Vincenzo Zagari of Ogden pleaded guilty Wednesday in a Rochester court to two counts of attempted robbery and one count of menacing a police officer.

Zagari stole a car in Ogden last January and later shoplifted at the Wegmans supermarket in Pittsford. He was driving off in the stolen vehicle when he hit a parked car. Authorities say he tried to carjack a vehicle at gunpoint before running across the road to a bank.

That’s where a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy shot Zagari in the chest when he showed a weapon.

He faces up to 12 years in prison when he’s sentenced.
