Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Thursday ordered flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff today in honor and remembrance of Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson who was killed Wednesday night in the line of duty.
Cuomo called the tragic death deeply saddening. Pierson, 32, of East Rochester, was an eight-year-member of the Rochester Police Department and a member of the Army National Guard.
“I join with all New Yorkers in mourning the loss of this public servant,” Cuomo said. “Across the state, law enforcement personnel put their lives on the line to protect our communities every day and today is a heartbreaking reminder of what that service can cost.”
