Services set for slain police officer

Funeral services for a Rochester police officer killed in the line of duty last week will be held at the Blue Cross Arena.

Authorities say 32-year-old Daryl Pierson died after he was hit by a single shot fired Wednesday night by a man wanted for a parole violation who fled from a traffic stop.

Visitation hours are 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Bartolomeo and Perotte Funeral Home in Greece.

Pierson’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial.

His survivors include his wife and two children, ages 4 and 3 months.

The man Pierson was chasing, 38-year-old Thomas Johnson III, has been charged with aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and assault. Johnson was wounded by Pierson’s partner.
