Members of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys came out in full force Tuesday evening to honor one of its own.
The association hosted a reception for U.S. District Court Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford at The Grill at One. Judge Wolford, who received her commission on Dec. 17, is the first women to serve on the federal bench in Western New York. She is also a former GRAWA president.
Judge Wolford said at first she was reluctant to have her name on the flier for the event, noting it was not a celebration of one, but of all to achieve greater diversity.
GRAWA President Tiffany Lee said the association was “so pleased and so thrilled” to have one of its own become the first women to serve on the District Court for the Western District of New York.
“We just want to wish you the best of success,” Lee said to Judge Wolford, noting GRAWA was probably cheering the loudest in the state when it heard the announcement of Judge Wolford’s confirmation.
Judge Wolford thanked Lee and GRAWA members, saying she appreciated the turnout, which neared 100.
