Council president honored

Rochester City Council President Loretta C. Scott on Saturday was presented with a community service award from Haggai Chapter 41 Holy Royal Arch Masons (Prince Hall Affiliation).

The event, a celebration of those who have devoted their lives to helping others, was at the Lodge on the Green Party House, according to a release.

“Community service is just as it sounds; it’s about raising your community to be its best self,” Scott said. “And, community can mean a lot of things. It can be putting a fresh coat of paint on a neighbor’s house or picking up the litter that’s on the street. But it can also be mentoring a child, joining a global social movement or helping at your church’s chicken dinner.”

Scott also delivered the keynote address, sharing her thoughts on community engagement. Also honored was Darryl Porter, former assistant to the mayor and former Rochester City School District Board president.
