Jerry Mazurkiewicz, a certified public accountant in Buffalo, has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the Michael H. Urbach, CPA Community Builders Award for his volunteerism work with the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
During his six years on the foundation’s board, and as its current chair, Mazurkiewicz has promoted the expansion of the organization’s collaborative partnerships with public and private entities; a strategy resulting in $31 million in additional support for initiatives in Western New York. The foundation holds more than 750 different charitable funds, large and small, established by individuals, families, nonprofit organizations and businesses.
The 11th annual award, co-sponsored by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the New York Council of Nonprofits Inc., recognizes exemplary achievements of a certified public accountant who serves on the board or boards of directors of charitable organizations.
Mazurkiewicz, past president of the New York State Society of CPAs local chapter, joined Dopkins & Co. LLP as a partner in 2004 and has provided income and estate tax planning services to a variety of high wealth clients, in addition to providing business and succession planning services to a number of private companies. Prior to that, he spent more than 32 years with KPMG LLP and was partner-in-charge of its upstate New York/Albany tax practice. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
