Wine, chocolate and the opportunity to raise awareness and funds to combat heart disease drew quite a few members of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys to Veritas Wine Bar on Feb. 6. The annual American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign had people all across town wearing red.
At last Friday’s event, three wine choices were paired with three different chocolates by Encore Chocolates for the sweet social event. Profits went directly to the heart association. GRAWA also held a raffle to raise additional money for the cause. Alissa Valentine won the raffle, netting her a bottle of Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard Malbec.
National Wear Red Day was created in 2004 by the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Heart disease continues to be the number one killer of women in the United States. Local AHA representatives Marc Natale, Alexis Zimmerman and Lauren Fritz were on hand to discuss heart disease.
