Joe Casion and Mary Loewenguth were the center of attention Thursday during “A Celebration of Leadership” by the Empire Justice Center at the Strathallan.
In addition to their support of the Empire Justice Center, Casion and Loewenguth were recognized for their tireless efforts to improve access to justice in New York state.
Casion, a partner in the Rochester office of Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, provides general counsel to not-for-profit organizations and for-profit businesses. As Empire Justice Center’s board chair, he led in shaping and growing its statewide board of directors by helping re-write the bylaws and update all corporation documents.
Loewenguth is executive director to the Monroe County Bar Association and the Foundation of the Monroe County Bar. Along with the board of trustees, Membership Committee, Friends of the Bar and staff, she led dramatic growth of voluntary bar membership. Loewenguth also led the effort to co-locate Rochester’s four legal services agencies into one building and spearheaded the Partnership for Equal Justice Campaign which raised nearly $3 million to establish the Telesca Center for Justice which has become a national model.
The biennial event is the Empire Justice Center’s signature fundraiser.
