Court overturns 2007 murder conviction

ROCHESTER (AP) — The state’s highest court has overturned a murder conviction in which the suspect accused Monroe County’s district attorney of prosecutorial misconduct.’The court reversed the 2007 murder conviction of Howard Wright. He claimed that District Attorney Sandra Doorley misrepresented the DNA evidence against him.

The panel ruled that Wright’s lawyer, Raymond Brown, should have challenged Doorley’s claims that Wright’s DNA was “all over the crime scene.”

Wright was convicted in the 1995 killing of Patricia Daggett. He was found guilty of second-degree murder, but acquitted of rape in the case.

Wright’s attorney for the appeal, David Kaplan, says he believes the ruling is in line with past decisions.

Doorley says she intends to retry Wright herself.

Brown couldn’t be reached for comment.
