Federal grant for MCC

A five year, $1.25 million grant was announced Wednesday by U.S. Rep. Louise Slaughter for Monroe Community College.

The Student Support Services grant, from the U.S. Department of Education, will help low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities achieve academic success by providing opportunities for educational development, assisting students with basic college requirements, and motivating students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.

“A strong education is still the key to getting ahead in the global economy, which is why I’m proud to have helped secure this critical support for Monroe Community College,” Slaughter said.

It is estimated the program will serve at least 300 students annually for each of the five years of the grant program.
