Employment at U.S. small businesses increased by about 59,000 jobs in July, according to the latest report from ADP.
The smallest businesses, those with one to 19 employees added 26,000 jobs last month, while those with 20 to 49 employees added 34,000 jobs.
Goods-producing businesses gained 2,000 jobs while service-providing firms increased by 56,000 jobs.
Franchise jobs rose by 33,000 in July, ADP reported. Restaurant franchises led the way by adding 15,690 jobs, followed by auto parts and dealer franchises, which added 9,250 jobs last month, up nearly 6 percent from a year ago. Hotel, accommodations and leisure franchises gained 3,620 jobs in July.
