BUFFALO — A former auto bureau clerk admits he took bribes from people seeking learner’s permits.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo says 49-year-old Michael Young of Buffalo pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of obtaining information from a protected computer.
Prosecutors say that while Young was working at the Erie County Department of Motor Vehicles, he solicited and accepted bribes to help people pass permit tests. Authorities say he provided the answers to people who had previously failed the test.
According to the plea agreement, Young conducted unauthorized computer checks to identify 15 such people from June through September of last year.
He faces up to a year in prison when he’s sentenced in November.
