The Young Entrepreneurs Academy is proud to announce that Chris Martusewicz, vice president of Finance for Toshiba Business Solutions, and Lauren Burruto, director of Sales for WHEC-TV, have been named the “Big Idea” instructors for this year’s University of Rochester and Downtown Rochester YEA! classes, respectively.
YEA! is a program that helps transform local middle and high school students into entrepreneurial successes.
“Chris’ and Lauren’s dedication to the community and deep knowledge of entrepreneurship make them great role models for YEA! students,” Gayle Jagel, founder and CEO of YEA! said in a release. “Our goal is to teach students how to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, and there’s no better instructors for our students than Rochester’s own successful business leaders.”
Throughout the year, students will work in close cooperation with local business leaders, community leaders and educators who use their personal experiences to demonstrate how to develop ideas and objectives, write a business plan, pitch potential investors, obtain funding, register with governmental agencies, establish e-commerce and a Web presence, and much more. By the end of the class, students own and operate fully-formed and functioning businesses, which may be carried after their graduation from the program.
Rochester area YEA! classes begin at the end of October, and graduate in May 2016. Classes will take place on Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m., at the University of Rochester, and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield in downtown Rochester. Applications from 6-12 grade students will be accepted through Wednesday, Sept. 30. Learn more or apply online at www.yeausa.org/rochester.
