Man gets 20 for major pot operation

BUFFALO — A western New York man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for running a major marijuana-growing operation that was busted seven years ago.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo says 51-year-old Joseph Tigano III of Cattaraugus was sentenced in federal court for his conviction on drug and weapons charges.

Law enforcement officers raided Tigano’s property in July 2008 and discovered an active hydroponic pot-growing operation that included 1,400 plants. Officers also seized 100 pounds of harvested and processed marijuana packaged for sale.

Federal authorities said the estimated value of the processed marijuana was between $300,000 and $500,000.

Officers also seized guns, cash and vehicles.

Tigano’s father, Joseph Tigano Sr., was also charged. He was convicted and sentenced to time served and three years’ supervised release.
