Chief judge hosts trafficking conference

Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman will host a summit today and Friday, bringing together more than 300 court leaders, prosecutors, legislators and other stakeholders nationwide to examine the full scope of human trafficking.

The event, at the Downtown Marriott in lower Manhattan, will promote innovative court-community responses toward eradication of who he calls a modern-day scourge — the world’s fastest growing criminal industry. Building upon New York’s expertise in Human Trafficking Intervention Courts, the groundbreaking summit will include workshops in which participants will develop a detailed action plan for their local state courts.

There will also be a reception and exhibit, featuring the vital work of New York’s New Abolitionists, a coalition of political leaders, judges, actors, trafficking victims and others dedicated to eliminating human trafficking via public education and other efforts.
