Auburn treatment court receives federal grant

Auburn City Court’s Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court has been awarded a $200,000 Bureau of Justice Assistance grant to provide case management services to heroin/opioid dependent participants.

The money will also help decrease heroin/opioid abuse by participants and others in the community through an outreach educational program; provide an annual speakers series on heroin and opioid abuse to educate the professional community; and evaluate the program.

“Let me begin by congratulating Judge Michael McKeon and his treatment court team for another successful drug treatment court grant application that is ensuring the continued success of this important treatment court, as well as, the success of those treatment court participants,” said Judge Craig J. Doran, administrative judge of the Seventh Judicial District. “Moreover, it is imperative that we aggressively address the heroin and opioid addiction that continues to grow in our communities.”

He announced the grant today with New York State Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman.
