The state’s private sector job count increased by 135,100 from September 2014 to September 2015, according to preliminary figures released Tuesday by the state Labor Department.
In September 2015, the number of private sector jobs in the State was 7,821,700. The state’s private sector job count is based on a payroll survey of 18,000 New York state employers conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Rates are calculated as prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state’s unemployment rate relies in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York state each month.
In addition, between August and September 2015, the State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 5.2 percent to 5.1 percent, its lowest level since April 2008.
