City to auction more than 800 properties

ROCHESTER — City officials in Rochester are offering up more than 800 houses, commercial sites and vacant lots at foreclosure auction today.

City Treasurer Kim Jones says more than $1.4 million is owed in taxes on the 803 parcels. Nearly 800 properties have been removed from the original tax foreclosure list because the owners repaid the debt.

The Rochester Land Bank will have first dibs to buy about 100 of the sites.

Katherine Sheets, director of the land bank, says they hope to acquire the targeted properties that the city hopes to redevelop and rehabilitate for sale or remove as part of a blight removal program.
