Erie County town justice promises not to seek judicial office

By: Bennett Loudon//June 16, 2016

A town justice in Erie County who was convicted of driving while ability impaired has agreed to never again seek judicial office.

Evans Town Court Justice Timothy J. Cooper, who resigned from his seat effective March 4, agreed to the stipulation in satisfaction of the issue, according to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

Cooper, served as Evans Town Justice since 1986, was served with a formal complaint in July 2015 alleging that on April 23, 2014, he drove his car under the influence of alcohol and caused an accident. He was convicted of DWAI on June 16, 2014.

No further details of the case were disclosed by the Commission.
