Six attorneys in the Fourth Department were honored Tuesday with this year’s Michael F. Dillon Attorney for Children Awards.

Each year the Fourth Department’s Attorneys for Children Advisory Committee selects two attorneys for children from each of the Fifth, Seventh and Eighth judicial districts to receive the award.

The 2018 recipients are:

  • Fifth Judicial District: Kristin A. Shanley, Oswego County; Doreen M. St. Thomas, Herkimer County.
  • Seventh Judicial District: Carolyn L. Chase, Monroe County; Leah T. Cintineo, Ontario County.
  • Eighth Judicial District: Carolyn Kellogg Jonas, Cattaraugus County; Michelle G. Chaas, Niagara County.

The award, which recognizes vigorous advocacy on behalf of children, is named for the former presiding justice of the Fourth Department.

Dillon, who died on July 9, 1991, spearheaded the development of high-quality representation of children in the Fourth Department and initiated mandatory training for attorneys for children in New York state.
