Three Rochester men have been accused of stealing U.S. mail.

Chansen R. Diaz, 30, Cordell L. James, 28, and Michael R. Harris, 31, have been charged with conspiracy and theft of mail. They are facing a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.

Their scheme started in August. Diaz and James worked for a contractor to the United States Postal Service, located at the Rochester Airport. Diaz and James stole mail that included gift cards and credit cards.

Diaz was observed rifling and opening mail, while James acted as his “look out,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

James and Harris lived together in Rochester. Records obtained from online retailers show that Harris ordered items online and the merchandise was delivered to Harris and James at their residence.

Video surveillance also showed Diaz and Harris shopping together and making purchases using stolen gift and credit cards.
