Partner, Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti PC

Years in current role: 8

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Strategizing with clients on how to comprehensively protect and leverage all facets of their intellectual property (IP), especially user experience (UX/UI) and other design aspects that are becoming increasingly important to the success of a business but can be overlooked from an IP standpoint.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?

Balancing career and client responsibilities during the pandemic with young school-age children at home (8 and 10).

What advice would you give law students who are graduating this year?

No matter what you do, dig in and show up. Ask questions, do quality work, deliver your work product before the deadline. Provide good customer service (both internally and externally) and be responsive — clients and colleagues expect and appreciate it. Finally, do your best to find a good mentor, listen and absorb; then eventually, become a good mentor.

What are you most looking forward to doing as COVID restrictions ease?

There are so many — who can pick just one! I would say it is a toss-up between traveling internationally, and going to see a concert and/or Broadway show (of course, for the kids it is Disney World or Universal/Harry Potter). But, most of all, hugging family and friends.
