Tina Monshipour Foster
Volunteer Legal Services Project of Monroe County
Years in current role: 3
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I get to work with the best lawyers in town — volunteers, staff and partners! And by “best” I mean those who are not only talented, but caring and compassionate, and willing to volunteer their time to help those in our community who need it the most.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?
It has been a difficult year for our clients, who are low-income people, many of whom were already struggling. The demand for legal services to help people facing a loss of income, housing, or other serious civil problem has increased over the past year. Fortunately, we’ve been able to expand our services, thanks to our community partners and pro bono volunteers.
What advice would you give law students who are graduating this year?
No matter where you work, be a human rights advocate. You are now privileged with access to knowledge and skills that not everyone has. Use your voice to speak up for equal justice for everyone.
