What do you enjoy most about practicing personal injury law?
I most enjoy interacting with and helping people. People who have been injured in car crashes or slip and fall accidents face myriad challenges, including physical and emotional pain and suffering, loss of income, and diminished ability to carry on their pre-accident normal daily activities. These challenges not only affect the injured person but also loved ones who depend on them. Many have no knowledge or very little knowledge of the laws surrounding negligence and the rights to recover for damages caused by the negligence of others. Helping people navigate the law and recover for their injuries is highly rewarding personally and professionally.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?
The biggest challenge I faced over the last year, not unlike other attorneys, was the inability to timely move cases to verdict to recover much-needed and deserved compensation for injured clients because of the court closures and delays caused by the COVID pandemic.
What do you see as the biggest changes in the legal industry in the next 3-5 years?
In the next 3-5 years we will see the continuation of many trends that have been underway for years, including increasing globalization of the legal industry and use of legal process outsourcing. In addition, increasing focus on attorney work-life balance issues.
What community organizations do you support as a volunteer and why?
I am very active in mentoring under-served and at-risk youth in and around the city of Rochester.
What are you most looking forward to doing as COVID restrictions ease?
With the continuing easing of COVID restrictions, I am most looking forward to seeing family and friends in person and enjoying the community as it returns to pre-pandemic “normal.”
