Attorney Kevin J. Espinosa has been appointed general counsel at Greenlight Networks, the high-speed fiber internet service provider.
Espinosa, who is based in the company’s Buffalo office, previously spent the past 10 years in various counsel roles at M&T Bank, most recently serving as the senior associate general counsel for commercial specialty lending and products.
In that capacity, he managed the successful negotiation of billions of dollars in securities transfers to M&T’s strategic partners, managed due diligence efforts relating to recent acquisitions and divestitures, led efforts to respond to regulatory changes and prepare regulatory applications, and served as comprehensive counsel to various business lines.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to the Greenlight team. His extensive experience in the legal field, particularly within the financial and regulatory sectors, aligns perfectly with our vision for Greenlight Networks,” Greenlight Networks CEO Mark Murphy said in a news release.
“Kevin’s exceptional skills will be instrumental as we continue to navigate the dynamic broadband industry and further grow our network in new markets,” Murphy said.
Espinosa joins Greenlight as a member of the company’s executive team. In his new role, he will provide critical legal and regulatory counsel, as well as strategic advice on a variety of broadband industry issues.
Additionally, Espinosa will lead initiatives aimed at mitigating and managing risk and overseeing contracts with strategic partners.
“I’m pleased to be joining Greenlight as general counsel. Buffalo is my home — it’s where I grew up, went to college and law school, and where my wife and I chose to raise our family. It feels great to join a company that is investing in this vibrant city. I’m looking forward to being a part of Greenlight’s growing presence both here in Buffalo and beyond,” he said.
Prior to joining M&T Bank, Espinosa was an associate with the Buffalo-based law firm Hodgson Russ LLP and served as an adjunct faculty member at the University at Buffalo School of Law.
In addition to his legal career, Espinosa is an active member of the community, serving as a mentor for students at UB School of Law and the Discover Law Program. He currently serves as chair of the board of trustees for the upstate New York chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
