Conifer Realty LLC
When Susan Jennings started at Conifer Realty in 2000, the firm did not have a strategic plan. Like a lot of businesses, Conifer was just trying to stay afloat.
As the firm grew and solidified its place in the market, Jennings was instrumental in researching strategic plans, their purpose and the best means of implementation. Now the strategic plan is an important part of work at Conifer: The leadership team holds a planning retreat each year, progress is evaluated monthly and the plan is updated every two years.
“This year was the most collaborative yet. Committees consisting of staff at all levels of the company identified our objectives and how to implement them,” Jennings said. “Our strategic plan has become our compass.”
Jennings enjoys teaching at the company’s annual leadership conference and mentoring the law students who intern with her each summer.
Another point of pride – the fact that Conifer provides affordable housing to more than 14,000 low income residents. The firm provides emergency and transitional housing for women facing abuse, addiction and mental illness and has converted historic schools to senior housing. In addition, they developed an apartment complex for aspiring artists.
“As general counsel, I believe I play an important role in structuring and closing these transactions so that we can develop these homes,” Jennings said. “I am proud to be a part of this dedicated and innovative team.”
Jennings is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School and a member of the American Bar Association Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development.
