Interested in the “art of persuasion,” Jennifer M. Schwartzott decided at age 12 that she wanted to become a layer. “I never considered any other job,” she admitted.
The New York native and University of Maryland School of Law graduate learned impeccable litigation skills at Miles & Stockbridge, a 200+ attorney firm based in Baltimore. She also spent eight years on a pro bono case in which she prevented a business owner from developing a rubble landfill in a residential African-American community, home to five soldiers who fought in the U. S. Colored Infantry in the Civil War.
In 2011, Schwartzott and her family moved to Rochester and she became a partner at Osborn, Reed & Burke, LLP, easily transitioning to the practice of law in New York.
“Osborn, Reed & Burke is a woman-owned law firm,” explained ORB partner Jane Hoppinger. “The addition of Jen strengthened our commitment to supporting women in our community and in the practice of law. Her mentorship of our associate attorneys has been an invaluable asset to the firm.”
Schwartzott is board president for the Federal Employees Parents Association and coaches for the Chili Soccer Association, sharing the soccer experience and skills she earned at Ithaca College with children and other coaches. She is also active in the Churchville Chili Central School’s parent-teacher organization.
While in college, Schwartzott received the Ithaca College Inspiration and Achievement Award for her courage and discipline over the course of seven months of cancer treatment as she continued her academic success and achievements with the women’s soccer team. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Schwartzott’s cancer remission.
