Insurers agree to update provider directories

ALBANY — New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says his office has reached settlements with eight companies that require them to ensure the accuracy of provider directories on their .

The attorney general’s office says the companies will remove names of doctors and other providers who no longer participate and correct listing errors for others. They also agreed to keep their directories updated within 30 days of changes and pay refunds to consumers who paid too much because they went to providers erroneously listed as in-network.

The companies are Empire HealthChoice HMO, Empire HealthChoice Assurance, Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York, HIP Insurance Company of New York, United HealthCare of New York, Oxford Health Plans of New York, United HealthCare Insurance Company of New York and Vytra Health Plans.
