What do you enjoy most about practicing intellectual property law?

I enjoy working with clients to understand their technology and business landscape to develop strategies that protect and preserve their competitive advantages.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?

While video conferencing and remote computer access have allowed us to maintain strong productivity, it is difficult to maintain and develop personal and professional relationships without the face-to-face contact and in-person meetings.

What do you see as the biggest changes in the legal industry in the next 3-5 years?

Working remotely has blurred the lines separating our professional and personal lives, but also limited the opportunities to develop personal relationships with colleagues and clients. This is going to create issues with attorney “burnout,” affect the mentoring and professional development of junior and mid-level attorneys, and impact firm culture. All of these will impact the retention of quality attorneys who will be the next generation of leaders in law firms.

What community organizations do you support as a volunteer and why?

I am currently President of the Board of Elmcrest Children’s Center, which provides services to at-risk youth, because “It’s all about the kids.” I am Past President and Secretary of Advocates Incorporated which provides self-directed community and residential supports to people with disabilities and their families which serves our daughter. I am also supporting refugee resettlement programs at Catholic Charities, because it wasn’t so many generations ago when my own ancestors were refugees looking for hope and a new start in America.

What are you most looking forward to doing as COVID restrictions ease?

I’m looking forward to travelling with my family.
