What do you enjoy most about your position?

Meeting and representing clients to assist them in accomplishing their asset-protection planning goals without compromising their quality of care. I am truly honored they provide me the opportunity to do so.

What is one thing you hope to accomplish before the end of the year?

On a personal level, obtaining my pilot’s license for single-engine aircraft. On a professional level, write a published article on what you should know when placing a loved one into a long-term care facility.

What are the biggest current challenges in trusts and estates law?

A few of my ongoing challenges are a) working with complex assets, b) reviewing trusts agreements drafted by counsel who may not have a Medicaid background, and c) reviewing transactions made by trustees who inappropriately operate the terms of a trust agreement.

What do you think the biggest change in your practice area will be over the next 3-5 years?

Reduction in knowledgeable practitioners in my practice area as a whole. The elder law attorneys in the Rochester area that I know are reaching retirement age and my concern overall is the shortage of caring, competent elder law attorneys who will go the extra mile for clients.

What do you enjoy most about practicing law in the Rochester area?

Establishing relationships with nursing homes and assisted living facility administrators and staff who accept many of my clients into their appropriate care settings when these clients can no longer live at home. I enjoy speaking with local business owners, tax and financial advisors, and other attorneys in different practice areas in the Rochester area who share their life-lesson stories with me.
